Frequently Asked Questions

Is this study guide generator free?

Yes. TubeLearn's YouTube study guide generator is free with no signup, no credit card, and no watermark. There is a soft daily generation limit per IP address so the tool stays available to everyone.

How is a study guide different from a summary?

A summary compresses a video so you can skip it. A study guide restructures a video so you can be tested on it. A summary is prose you read once and forget; a study guide separates concepts from their definitions and states key points as discrete claims, which is what makes self-testing possible. Reading a summary feels like learning because the material is familiar, but familiarity is not recall. The only reliable check is whether you can produce the answer without looking, and a summary gives you nothing to be checked against.

What if the video has no captions?

TubeLearn builds the study guide from the video's public captions, so a video without captions can't be processed. The tool will say so and you can try another video. Most lectures, tutorials, and conference talks have captions, either creator-supplied or auto-generated.

How long can the video be?

The free web tool handles videos up to 30 minutes. Longer lectures are supported in the TubeLearn app and the Chrome extension, which also lift the one-a-day limit.

Can I export it?

Yes, download the Lesson instantly as a formatted PDF with the overview, the concept and definition pairs, and the key points laid out for printing or annotating.

Does it work for lectures, tutorials, and conference talks?

Yes. Recorded lectures produce structured notes, coding tutorials produce something closer to a cheat sheet of commands and concepts, and conference talks produce a concept list you can test yourself on. The structure adapts to what is actually taught in the video.
